Quezon City residents have a literacy rate of 98.32%, higher than the average rate for the Philippines of 93.4%.  There is a large English-speaking population, with English the language of instruction in almost all subjects in school and for business.

Like all Filipino children, Quezon City residents may enter school at about age two to six years (for daycare), up to kindergarten. At about six or seven years of age, children enter elementary school for six or seven years. This is followed by secondary school, also called as high school, for four years. Students may then sit for College Entrance Examinations (CEE), after which they may enter tertiary institutions for three to five years.

The city’s school age population (from pre-school to tertiary education) number 1.88 million, or 4.3% of the country’s total enrolled population of 43.56 million in school year 2009-2010.  Quezon City is considered to have the largest school-age population in the country.

Comparing the numbers of those enrolled, with the population statistics on college-age children (16 to 21 years), it can be inferred that 32% of Quezon City’s population of college-age are enrolled at the tertiary level in Quezon City-located colleges and universities.

The following table shows the number of students who graduate at the tertiary level, from Quezon City-located colleges and universities.  This cannot be considered, however, to be the number of Quezon City residents who graduate from college – since it is not uncommon for some of those who reside in Quezon City to take up their college education elsewhere in Metro Manila or farther.  The same holds true for other residents in Metro Manila.
