Over 100 thousand pesos will be given away on July 16 as the 6th District of Quezon City holds its first-ever Katipunan Trail Challenge.
Organized by the offices of Cong. Jose Christopher "Kit" Belmonte and Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, the race will be held within the Historical District of Quezon City, and see challengers navigate through a 25-kilometer trail starting from the Tandang Sora Shrine in Barangay Unang Sigaw, in an effort to clear designated checkpoints.

In these checkpoints, participants will face challenges related to the historical significance of each Barangay pitstop, performing various Palarong Pinoy games such as sipa, patintero, tumbang preso, luksong baka, and piko. Ten checkpoints have been selected around the racecourse, which challengers will arrive at either through running, biking, or riding various modes of transportation.

Each barangay in the District will select 18 bonafide, physically fit residents at least 18 years old as team members, with the punong barangay acting as team captain. The first team to cross the finish line will be awarded 50 thousand pesos as grand prize. The first and second runners-up will take home 30 and 20 thousand pesos, respectively.

The activity is part of the District's month-long celebration, with the theme “reaching greater heights through unity”, which commemorates the district’s achievements for the past half decade, while encouraging partners, stakeholders, and the community as a whole to take part in working towards its continuous
success.

District 6 of Quezon City was born out of Office Order No. 91 signed by Mayor Herbert Bautista, creating the Historical Banlat Area in the then 2nd Congressional District of Quezon City. In conjunction with this Order, Rep. Sonny Belmonte and Winnie Castelo then lobbied for the reapportionment of the 2nd Legislative District into two additional Legislative Districts. RA 10170 was signed by July 2 2012.

District 6 is envisioned to be Quezon City’s “Gateway to Growth, Quality of Life, and Heritage”, owing to its prime location in the city’s northwestern boundaries which include a number of key entry points to Metro Manila. The District also enjoys access to key heritage sites that link citizens to the role of Quezon City in the nation’s history.scroll back to top
