|QC approves Postgraduate Scholarship Ordinance|
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has signed into law a measure that will enable the less fortunate but deserving city residents to take up postgraduate courses.
Ordinance No. SP-2165, s-2012 seeks to establish a postgraduate scholarship program that will offer a free post-graduate study to deserving Quezon City students who cannot afford to enroll for higher courses.
The scholarship program is consistent with the city development plan which aims to make Quezon City the knowledge capital of the country where deserving residents can pursue higher education in spite of their family’s low income.
The city government believes that education is the ultimate weapon to conquer poverty and by providing educational assistance, the battle against poor quality of life will be well fought, thus, minimizing the number of displaced youth.
To qualify as beneficiary, an applicant must be a resident of QC for at least 3 years; he or she must be twenty years old but not more than thirty years of age; and should meet the minimum requirements set by the SSC.
A written examination will be given to applicants to test their analytical and numerical abilities followed by a technical interview to successful nominees to determine the candidate’s capacity to undergo the rigors of graduate studies. The interview will also focus on the candidate’s research proposal.
