|SSS AlkanSSSya program launched at Payatas|
Informal workers in the city will find it easier now to be a member of Social Security System (SSS) as the agency’s AlkanSSSya Program was launched with the Quezon City government on December 2012
SSS President and CEO Emilio De Quiros Jr. with Cdr. Aldrin Cuña, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista’s Chief of Staff, attended the inauguration of the special AlkanSSSya units which are initially installed at the QC Integrated Waste Disposal Facility. Present were officers and members of the Payatas Alliance Recycling Exchange (PARE) Multi-Purpose Cooperative; and Col. Jameel RM Jaymalin, Director of the Payatas Poverty Alleviation Foundation Inc. (PPAFI) and Head of the QC Payatas Operations Group, who helped pave the way for the AlkanSSSya partnership
Initially, 480 garbage pickers of the waste disposal who are members of PARE Multi-Purpose Cooperative were enrolled as new members of the AlkanSSSya program.
The AlkanSSSya program is a micro savings program that aims to attract informal sector workers seeking access to social protection. This program will make use of cabinet-like “piggy banks” to help its members save up on their premiums and eventually come up with the needed P312 monthly due.
AlkanSSSya members can avail of the agency's salary and housing loans as well as funeral, maternity, disability, death and retirement benefits. They will likewise be issued a Unified Member Idenfication card which they can use when transacting to private and public institutions.
De Quiros said the three newly-inaugurated AlkanSSSya units for PARE Multi-purpose Cooperative members are made of wood and recyclable materials such as plastic bottles. The units will be housed at the cooperative’s office for safekeeping. A mobile van will carry the AlkanSSSya units to the area where Payatas workers sell the materials that they have gathered from the garbage. This saves them the trouble of taking a long walk to the cooperative’s office just to drop their savings into their AlkanSSSya coin slots.
The AlkanSSSya program has been implemented in other key cities such as Las Pinas, Paranaque, Marikina and Pasig.
