Mayor Herbert Bautista and Vice mayor Joy Belmonte planting a Cupang tree
Mayor Herbert Bautista has ordered the planting of Cupang trees, a fast-growing shady tree specie, along the borders of the West Valley Faultline in Quezon City. These are in addition to the concrete markers established at several points of the line. At Baranggay Bagong Silangan, the city government's department and operating unit heads assisted in the planting of these trees along the marked areas of the BF Homes property, where a trench has also been dug up by the Philvocs to study and observe the ground movements.

Earlier, at an Executive Staff Meeting on January 16, the mayor stressed the need for preparedness as he directed the city executives and city representatives of the National Housing Authority and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to work together to package the needs for the establishment of a model evacuation site in Barangay Bagong Silangan. The area is flood-prone, and is therefore a focus of the city government's disaster preparedness measures. Among the strategies being prepared for are the construction of a multipurpose facility that can serve as a ready evacuation site in time of need, complete with multiple, basic shower and bathroom amenities; the continous expansion of the city's socialized housing projects, for permanent resettlement sites of those currently living in danger areas; and comprehensive inventory of the city government's property assests to have a ready landbank for sites of facilities needed.
