New house numbering system in QC

The Quezon City government will soon adopt a uniform house numbering system to lessen the incidents of undelivered mails, bills and notices due to confusion in the present setup.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte said once the new system is implemented, all real estate owners in the city will be assigned with a permanent house number to ensure orderliness, especially in properties occupying two or more boundaries.

Belmonte said land developers will now be forbidden to issue house numbers to their clients without the approval of the city government.

Fourth District Councilor Edcel Lagman, principal author of the ordinance, said the old practice of assigning unsanctioned resident numbers has added confusion to the already highly urbanized city.

With Quezon City being named as the country’s richest local government unit (LGU), millions of people have decided to acquire properties, transfer their residency or have occupied rented units in the city.

To facilitate the new housing numbering system, the city’s planning and development office, barangay operations center, assessor’s office, barangays and other concerned agencies have been tasked to coordinate with all real estate property owners especially in areas located in two or more boundaries.

Lagman said the law will hopefully get rid of the confusion in the current house numbering system wherein the same house number is sometimes used twice in a single street of one barangay.

Under the General Welfare Clause of the Local Government Code, local government units are mandated to promote the orderliness, peace, health and safety of local residents.
