QC focuses on water conservation

To combat the ill-effects of the El Niño phenomenon, the Quezon City government will be part of the task force that will conduct massive information and education campaigns on water conservation at the barangay level.

Frederika Rentoy of the city’s Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) said that the proposed creation of an ad hoc task force on climate change will hopefully help the community cope up with the inconvenience brought about by the dry spell.

Rentoy said that the group will plan and implement climate change adaptation and mitigation measures embodied in the Climate Change Act of 2009 (Republic Act 9729).

The city government will forge a tie-up with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Systems (MWSS) and its two concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) and the various barangays for the purpose.
