The youngest of four children of three-term Quezon City Mayor and now Speaker of the House of Representatives Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte has always had the heart for public service. Her advocacy primarily focuses on women empowerment, promotion of children’s development and social entrepreneurship.
She heads the Social Development Committee of the Quezon City Development Council. She also chaired the Quezon City Ladies Foundation, moving women leaders in Quezon City to come up with meaningful social programs for the women and children in Quezon City.
Believing that entrepreneurship is key to financial freedom, she founded Husay Pinay, an organization that promotes entrepreneurship among women and homemakers. She also headed the Ilaw ng Bayan Foundation, an NGO that provides support to various marginalized sectors in the community.
She founded the Quezon City Performing Arts Foundation, a pool or world-class talents performing and winning competitions all over the world. Through her foundation, she gives young people from the poorest communities, opportunity to uplift themselves through the performing arts.
Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte has solid academic preparation for government leadership. She has a masters degree in Public Administration and Development from the University of Birmingham. She also ranked as Best of the Bureaucracy in the Civil Service Career Eligibility Examination.
Being an archeologist by profession, the vice mayor champions promotion of culture and artistic development. She heads the conceptualization and design of the proposed Quezon City Museum which will soon rise at the Quezon Memorial Circle. Her extensive experience in archeology and museum studies in London enables her to think of dynamic and creative ideas for cultural development in Quezon City.
