Quezon City Joins the Nation in Commemorating the 114th Independence Day

june122012

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista led QC officials and employees as the city joined the nation on the celebration of the 114th anniversary of Philippine Independence last June 12, 2012.

This historical event with this year's theme “Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan Para sa Tuwid na Daan,” was celebrated with a Flag-raising Ceremony at the City Hall Plaza. This was held simultaneous nationwide at 7:30 in the morning.

Wreath laying ceremonies at the Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio monuments at the QC Hall grounds was the highlight of the day's event.

Quezon City barangays with jurisdictions on historical landmarks and shrines also conducted simultaneous wreath laying ceremonies as part of their scheduled flag-raising rites.

Each city barangay carried out clean-up drives in their respective community afterwards.

The Mayor said that the city government should observe this year's celebration of our sovereignty with great delight as the city commemorates this year the 200th birth anniversary of Melchora Aquino, more popularly known as Tandang Sora. She is also considered as the Heroine of Quezon City.

We should celebrate Independence Day with pride because Balintawak and Pugad Lawin, which are now a part of Quezon City, became hallowed grounds of the 1896 Revolution.
